I had the pleasure of attending and playing my part with the stage management of the Pick 'n' Mix event held at Club 85 in Hitchin on 3rd May 2014. The event was set up so that up coming Luton RnB, Soul, Hip Hop and Pop artists could show case their talents as opportunities like this is something that Luton lacks (especially considering the masses of talented artists in and around the area.) The event involved a whole load of promotion which is something you need to take into consideration when looking into becoming a Freelance Musician. The promotion involved a count down to the event where the artists that were performing on the night talked in front of the camera about their musical interests and why Pick n Mix would be a great event to attend, and the MPA girls handing out leaflets in Luton and Hitchin before the event. The only way in which an artist could perform on the night was to buy a bulk of 10 tickets to the event before hand. They were then free to sell them off for whichever price they wished- but this was one way of making back the money that was put into the running of the event before it even took place.
Overall the night was a success, a few artists not performing at the actual event took to the stage for the open mic to showcase their talent and the headlining acts brought in a good crowd. HOH is planning to make Pick 'n' Mix Live an annual event and have already began setting up a Pick 'n' Mix Live in The Booth. The first act to have presented his talent at 'Live in The Booth' is Myles Smith.
